Group Issues Security Standards for Mobile Health Data

Corporate Counsel quoted Atlanta partner David Katz in an article published on Aug. 14, 2015 discussing the latest security standards for the healthcare sector released by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The NIST and its National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence unveiled “Securing Electronic Health Records on Mobile Devices,” offering guidance for organizations involved in healthcare to design and implement security systems that ensure the protection of personal and health information for patients. As cybercriminals increasingly target patient data from a variety of health-related entities, Mr. Katz advises the importance for companies to understand what they have, where it is located, who needs access, and what levels of access are necessary for each person. “You really have to understand your environment,” he said. “It’s not a one size fits all.” To read the full article, click here.
