FLORENCE, S.C. — Florence native William C. Hubbard is ascending to one of the highest honors and responsibilities in law this summer, so Thursday night the Pee Dee legal community celebrated his achievements.

This August Hubbard, who currently practices law in Columbia, will become the president of the American Bar Association, thus becoming the first South Carolinian to ever hold the position in the organization’s nearly 136 year history.

To mark the occasion at a home town reception Florence Mayor Stephen J. Wukela made a proclamation that April 17, 2014 be William C. Hubbard Day and declared him a favorite son of the Pee Dee. He also gave him a key to the city.
