Vinoda Basnayake Selected to Chair of the DC Vote Board of Directors

Over the last several years on the board, Basnayake has engaged in a wide range of initiatives directed at achieving full voting rights for DC residents, and winning greater autonomy for the District's local government. 

Basnayake is of counsel in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP's Washington offce where he assists foreign governments and international corporations in legislative and policy matters. He also has strong local connections within the DC community. He chairs his firm's District of Columbia Government Relations Practice. He was previously appointed Commissioner of D.C. Small and Local Business Opportunity under Mayor Fenty and served on Mayor Bower's Transition Team for Economic Development. In addition to his legal work, Basnayake is a Principal and co-founder of Vindara & Co., a major player in nightlife, hospitality, lifestyle marketing and entertainment in the District with projects including Karma by Erwin Gomez, Sheppard with Spike Mendelsohn and Kabin Lounge. He is consistently recognized in the media as one of the most infuential Washingtonians under 40.
