Robert Foster is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP in Columbia where he practices in the areas of business litigation, premises liability, and product liability. Additionally, he is experienced in Uniform Commercial Code litigation.

Mr. Foster serves as national product liability counsel for one of the largest manufacturers of home appliances in the United States. In 2005, Terex Corporation selected Mr. Foster as "Outstanding Product Liability Counsel." As national and regional counsel for several leading hotel chains, Mr. Foster has handled violent crime and premises liability cases in California, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. A member of the South Carolina Bar and the State Bar of Georgia, Mr. Foster has tried over 80 cases to verdict, and handled oral arguments at every level of appeal in South Carolina and Georgia. Within the last four years, Mr. Foster has tried cases to verdict in California, Nevada, Wisconsin and Rhode Island, in addition to South Carolina.

Mr. Foster has held numerous leadership roles within the Firm. In 1989, he opened the Firm's Charleston, South Carolina, office, serving as managing partner of that office from 1989-92. Mr. Foster assisted in the 1992 opening of the Firm's Atlanta office and served as administrative managing partner of that office until 1996, when he returned to South Carolina. He served as chair of the Firm's Recruiting Committee from 1988-89.

Mr. Foster is an active member in the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel where he presently is a vice-president and serves on its Board of Directors.

He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and serves as its Treasurer. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Richland County Bar Association. He is listed in Best Lawyers in America and South Carolina Super Lawyers. Best Lawyers also has named him the 2012 Columbia, S.C., Personal Injury Litigation Lawyer of the Year. Prior to joining the Firm, he served as law clerk to U.S. District Judge Falcon B. Hawkins of South Carolina.

Mr. Foster earned a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1982. During law school, he was a member of the Moot Court Bar and the International Law Moot Court Team. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from the South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina in 1979.
