RALEIGH (February 16, 2017)–Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough partners Patricia A. Markus and Roy H. Wyman Jr. will participate in a panel discussion of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) and its likely effects on North Carolina healthcare providers and insurers at a daylong Health Policy Workshop in Research Triangle Park on March 30. The event is sponsored by the N.C. Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance, Inc. (NCHICA).

Ms. Markus represents healthcare industry clients and related organizations on an array of regulatory compliance and transactional matters, with a special focus on health information privacy, security, and technology issues. She earned her law degree from Boston College Law School. She serves on the Board of Directors of the American Health Lawyers Association.

He previously served as Chief Privacy Officer and Associate General Counsel for TEAMHealth and as Senior Legal Counsel to CVS Caremark Corp. He received his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.

The panel will provide an overview of key facets of the MACRA legislation, which will move payment for healthcare services from the current volume-based model toward a payment based upon a value-based model; describe some of its likely effects upon providers, payers, IT vendors, policy makers, and employers; and offer different stakeholders’ current thoughts about how to prepare to meet this challenging but necessary tectonic shift.
